Are you a person with access to wealth who feels overwhelmed and paralyzed by how to show up in this political moment?

hands.jpg

Many of us currently feel confusion around the future of progressive causes like climate and environmental justice, reproductive and gender justice, democracy and racial equity. We are up at night worried about our neighbors our communities,  our children, and our planet. And we want to do something.

Those of us with access to wealth often feel an additional layer of confusion. We may have shame knowing that our safety nets shield us from the worst of these injustices.

Combined with the cultural taboo of talking openly about money, this shame can result in overwhelming paralysis, keeping us from using our resources to support necessary progressive causes. We may feel compelled to hide our true access to resources and find ourselves stuck, not knowing where to begin in mobilizing our resources.

Feeling ready to release yourself from this paralysis and shame, and actionably move towards long-term hope, safety and security for you,  your family, and for the communities most impacted by injustices?

New Legacy Lab FAQs

  • How do I join the New Legacy Lab?
Great question! Please complete the contact form below OR email Hilary at hilary.pollan@gmail.com. Hilary will follow up with more details!
  • What is the time commitment?
The New Legacy Lab occurs over four months , with a total of seven 2-3 hour sessions. The sessions are scheduled for every 2-3 weeks, in-person on a weekday evening. Lab participants are also expected to attend all sessions and to engage in pre- and post-session materials. The cohort will meet twice more for a six-month and one-year check-in.
  • How much does it cost?
The New Legacy Lab is offered at a sliding scale of $1000 - $3500 based on access to wealth. * This covers the cost of facilitators, honorariums for presenters, delicious catered meals at every session, and a 10% re-distribution to social justice organizations. *If this amount feels cost prohibitive for your participation, please reach out to Hilary (hilary.pollan@gmail.com) to discuss alternative options.
  • Who else will be in this group?
The New Legacy Lab is an affinity space for people with access to wealth to work on their money journeys in a safe and supportive space. The Cohort will include participants with a range of access to wealth and money stories. Previous participants have ranged from having limited current access to wealth to access of over $10 million. The lab is designed to be relevant across access levels and with a variety of money stories. This is also a multiracial and intergenerational group. In Spring 2025, the cohort will *only* include participants who identify as women, trans or nonbinary.
  • How many people will be in the group?
A group will have a minimum of 4 participants and a maximum of 10 participants
  • How much money to I need to have access to be in this group?
There is no minimum access amount required. This group is for anyone who wants to feel greater values alignment with inherited and/or earned wealth. The cohort offers tools and strategies that are relevant across wealth access levels.
  • Do I need current access to my wealth to participate?
No. Current or future access to inherited wealth will both be relevant. This experience is also relevant to people with earned wealth.
  • Is there a donation commitment to be in this group?
No, there is no donation commitment required to participate. However, we hope participants will begin to implement their giving plans within the 12-month period of the cohort.
  • What is different about this group than working with philanthropic advisors and donor services?
The New Legacy Lab invites YOU into the work of re-distributing your wealth and power. Rather than having someone else do this work for you – like working with a philanthropic advisor - you will become equipped with the frameworks, tools and community to show up for justice. New Legacy Lab introduces a new orientation to giving as compared to traditional philanthropy. New Legacy Lab has an explicit commitment to social justice and dismantling white supremacy through our giving.
  • In what ways are BIPOC and cross-class folks involved in shaping New Legacy Lab?
New Legacy lab is multiracial learning community and embraces cross-class collaboration. The New Legacy Lab curriculum was designed in community with cross-class and BIPOC collaborators. Collaborators are compensated fairly for their creative contributions. Additionally, some of these collaborators are involved in deciding where and how to re-distribute the 10% of revenues from participants fees.

Meet the Co-Facilitators

Hilary and Colby are passionate about creating a world with an equitable distribution of resources. They have been co-facilitating wealth re-distribution and money journey learning communities together since 2022. They are both actively on their own money journeys as individuals with access to wealth, and weave their learnings and experiences into their New Legacy Lab facilitation.

This cohort was exactly what I needed to grow my personal relationship to giving. Through the exercises and connecting with others this group gave me the right support to grow my giving capacity.

I feel more confident and comfortable discussing money, my giving plans, financial strategies for impactful giving, and how to organize myself around these efforts.
